These are Unicode characters rather than a typeface, so they paste straight into a bio or username. Screen readers cannot read them and search engines cannot index them — use the image tab when the lettering has to be printed, cut or read aloud.

How to use it

Use markdown in messages, Unicode everywhere else

Inside a message Discord already gives you formatting: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, and backticks for `monospace`. That is the better tool there — it renders natively, stays searchable and reads correctly to a screen reader. Unicode styles earn their place in the fields markdown does not touch: server nicknames, your custom status, channel and category names, forum tags, and your display name.

Nicknames have a 32-character ceiling

Server nicknames cap at 32 characters and the global display name at 32 as well. The substitution styles cost you nothing extra — one character in, one out. The combining four are a different story: strikethrough and its siblings insert a mark after every letter, so a 20-character nickname becomes 40 and will not save. If a nickname is silently refusing, length is the first thing to check.

Moderators and bots may undo it

Plenty of servers run auto-moderation that normalises or blocks unusual characters in nicknames, precisely because unreadable names make moderation harder. Some require a readable name as a rule. If your nickname keeps reverting, a bot is doing it, not Discord — check the server rules before assuming something is broken.

Discord cannot load a real font

There is no way to change Discord's typeface from inside the app, for you or for anyone reading you. Everything on this page works by swapping characters, which is why it renders for everybody without a download. If you need actual lettering — a server banner, a role icon, an emoji — use the Image tab and export a transparent PNG or an SVG.

How do I change the font in Discord?

Discord has no font setting, so copy a style above and paste it where you want it — a server nickname, your custom status, or a message. The characters carry the styling, so everyone sees it without installing anything.

Should I use these in messages or use markdown?

Use markdown in messages: **bold**, *italic*, ~~strikethrough~~ and backticks for monospace all render natively, stay searchable and read correctly aloud. Save these styles for nicknames, status and channel names, where markdown does nothing.

Why does my nickname keep resetting?

Usually a moderation bot normalising unusual characters, or the 32-character limit — the combining styles roughly double your length. Try a substitution style like Bold or Small Caps and a shorter name, and check whether the server requires readable nicknames.

Can I use styled text in a channel name?

Yes, though Discord lowercases text channel names and strips spaces, which mangles some styles. Voice and category names keep more of it. Test on a throwaway channel before renaming anything people rely on.

Is a bot or Nitro required?

Neither. This runs entirely in your browser and produces plain text on your clipboard. Nitro changes nothing about how these characters display.
